Humerus

The humerus is a long bone in the upper limbs that extends from the shoulder to the elbow.

The parts of the humerus can be categorized as:

Clinical Notes:

  1. The mostly commonly fractured region of the humerus is it’s surgical head (this is also it’s weakest point). A fracture in this region can also cause trauma to the axillary nerve and the anterior and posterior circumflex arteries due to their proximity.

  2. The following structures are in close proximity with each other and a fracture at any of the following regions may also cause trauma to the nerve in its vicinity:

    • Medial epicondyle with ulnar nerve

    • Radial groove with radial nerve

    • Distal humerus with median nerve
