Pulmonary Circulation
Pulmonary circulation ensures the movement of blood from the heart to the lungs for oxygenation and the removal of carbon dioxide.
The steps in pulmonary circulation can be summarized as:
Deoxygenated blood is pushed out of the right ventricle of the heart through the pulmonary valves and into the pulmonary trunk.
The pulmonary trunk branches into the right and left pulmonary arteries which transport the deoxygentaed blood all the way through to the capillary beds in the lungs where gaseous exchange takes place.
Newly oxygenated blood is the transported through the four pulmonary veins back into the left atrium of the heart.
This completes pulmonary circulation.
