Testes

The testes are paired oval shaped organs that are located within the scrotum, they are suspended by the spermatic cord and each testis is associated with an epididymis located posterolaterally.

The testis are surrounded and protected by layers of connective tissues arranged externally to internally as - tunica vaginalis, tunica albuginea, and tunica vasculosa.

The testis are made up of a series of lobules that contain seminiferous tubules which are supported by interstitial tissue. These seminiferous tubules are lined by Sertoli cells that aid the process of spermatogenesis. The interstitial tissue in turn houses the Leydig cells responsible for testosterone production.

The spermatozoa produced in the seminiferous tubules, collect in the rete testes before being transported by efferent tubules to the epididymis for maturation and storage.
